December 2021 Newsletter

Our Winter Recital will take place on Sunday, December 12th (Group 1 will start at 2PM and Group 2 will start at 3:30PM. If you haven’t already received an email with your group, please reach out to info@chevychaseartsacademy.com and we will assist you!). The recital will be held at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Silver Spring, Maryland.  All family and friends are welcome to attend! Masks will be required with the exception of the person performing. We look forward to seeing you there!

Community Spotlight

We’re excited to continue our Community Spotlight feature to showcase our students and instructors! We hope this will provide the opportunity for you to get to know your community members a little more in depth. This month please meet brothers Alex and Nicholas M-F. and Jordan Colquitt!

Nicholas M-F.

Name: Nicholas M-F.
Age: 8 years old
Instrument: Piano

Nicholas began piano lessons in March 2021 :)

• What are you currently listening to?
  During this season I love to listen to all Christmas music and songs. I also like k-pop, rock and classical.

• Who is your favorite composer/musician/group?
  I like Imagine Dragons.

• What else do you like to do in your free time?
  My favorite activity is piano. I also like to attend my theatre class, hockey, I like to play Roblox and I LOVE to draw.

• What do you like most about playing music?
  I really like my piano teacher and playing the piano with my brother makes me happy and it's a lot of fun!

Alex M-F.

Name: Alex M-F.
Age: 9 years old

• What are you currently listening to?
  In this season I love to listen to all Christmas music and songs. I also like hip-hop, pop, funk, rock and classical. I also like to pretend to be an opera singer.

• Who is your favorite composer/musician/group?
  I like Michael Jackson, Kacey Musgraves and Andrea Bocelli.

• What else do you like to do in your free time?
  My favorite activity is piano. I also like to play violin and hockey, I like to read, I like playing Roblox and sometimes I like to pretend I am an opera singer and I like playdates with my friends.

• What do you like most about playing music?
  I like to play each key of the piano and then listen to the melody they can create together. I like my teacher a lot and me and my brother are really enjoying every minute of our lessons. She makes it very hard to leave the CCAA studio on Monday nights!

Jordan Colquitt

Name: Jordan Colquitt
Instrument: Guitar/Trumpet

• What are you currently listening to?
  Lately, I have been listening to a lot of Brazilian bossa nova music. Mainly the works of Baden Powell, Luiz Bonfá, and an album by Antônio Carlos Jobim called “Inédito.” I have also been listening to some podcasts called “Philosophize This!” and “The Tao Te Ching for Everyday Living.”

• How often/what inspires you to practice?
  I practice pretty much every day for at least 2-3 hours. I am most inspired to practice by finding new and interesting music, of any genre, that engages and challenges me.

• What do you like most about playing music?
  My favorite thing about playing music is being able to express the feelings and emotions that cannot be put into words. Music is such an ephemeral art form; it disappears the moment it comes into existence. To quote Jean-Michel Basquiat, “Art is how we decorate space, music is how we decorate time.”
